So you are planning to pop the big question. As a photographer, I understand wanting to capture the moment you pop the question. I have had guys contact me over the years planning to do all sorts of things from picnics to sunrise yoga on the beach and every time they have me hiding with a long lens far off in the distance so as to not ruin the surprise. The girls are completely unprepared to take photos and trust me, no girl likes to take pictures when they’re not planning to have their picture taken. I find most girls want to make sure that they have their hair, makeup and clothing all put together. Recently I had a guy contact me saying that he would like to do a photo session and during that photo session he would propose to his girlfriend. I thought to myself that is the most brilliant way to propose out there. You both can prepare to have your photograph taken, I can get in and capture this once in a lifetime moment and the whole thing is still a surprise. Another reason to plan to pop the question in this manner is so you can use this session as your engagement photos, so you’re killing two birds with one stone. Here are some examples from the session I was talking about above. You notice that they're all ready to take photos and she was totally surprised.

If you decide to do something else please keep in mind.

-      Keep in mind time of day for lighting purposes

-      Location and People - consider the background and people that may or may not get into your background.

-      Try and think of a plan that would make her dress in a way that would be flattering if caught on film.

-      Try and get her to do her make up and hair.

*Girls hate having their pictures taken without their hair and make up being done.
